“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.”
– David McCullough Jr.
11th December is International Mountain Day and I wanted to commemorate it to raise awareness regarding mountains and their importance. It’s strange that in spite of their magnificence they’re often overseen in terms of their significance. I guess we do tend to be oblivious to what’s obvious!
“MountainsMatter” is the theme chosen for this year’s celebration of International Mountain Day. Even though they are mentioned in the 2030 Agenda, mountains are still often forgotten. Considering the crucial role they play in providing key ecosystem goods and services to the planet and their vulnerability in the face of climate change, we need to step up and raise attention to mountains. – Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations
Did you know that out of the top 100 mountains of the world, 30 are in Pakistan! This sheer fact makes Pakistan a paradise for mountaineers! You may find out more about it by reading this article.
I would love to visit all 30 of these mountains! Have you been to any of them?
P.S. This post is also a throwback to Turkey where these photos were taken on our way to Cappadocia and I’m so grateful for some of the most stunning views I got to witness along the way! 🙏🏼
