Brunch at Del Frio – Review

Amidst all the Eid craziness, Saad and I decided to eat out on the second day of Eid. We stepped out without any particular place in mind for breakfast and ended up going to Del Frio at SMCHS, Karachi. Anyhoo…let’s get straight into the review.

When we arrived, there were only a few people inside at that point. We checked the menu and weren’t too keen on trying the options available for breakfast as we didn’t find them too appealing. Luckily, they were serving all the main courses also and it was almost brunch time so we decided to go ahead with it.

Saad ordered Taragon Chicken and I ordered Moroccan Chicken. For sidelines they had potato wedges, mashed potatoes and french fries out of which we both ordered mashed potatoes. While our main course was being prepared, we were served complimentary starters; garlic bread with two kinds of sauces. The garlic bread was just as I like it, crispy on the edges and soft in the middle.

The main courses were served with steamed vegetables along with the mashed potatoes.

Both Taragon Chicken:

and Moroccan Chicken:

were perfectly cooked, succulent, saucy and satiating. I absolutely love mashed potatoes. For me the perfect mash is creamy and properly seasoned and we got just that. The serving size was good too.

However, I’m not a fan of their customer service. The serving time was 20 – 25 minutes but that wasn’t the issue. The place wasn’t crowded or anything and the place where we were sitting was a little uncomfortable and right in front of the kitchen. Hence, we asked a waiter if we could sit at this area which was completely empty to which he replied that that place is designated for buffet. Alright…sure…got it. However, the last straw was that while we were still eating, the waiter came up to us and said , “Are you done?” Um…really? I couldn’t understand why he was rushing especially since there were only a few people there and we did’t take particularly longer than usual either. Talk about being rude to your customers.

Anyhow, coming down to the pricing, initially I thought it was a bit steep. However, the food and serving size made it worth it. All in all the food was good but the service wasn’t all that great. Will I be going to Del Frio again? Maybe…maybe not…perhaps for the food alone but there are better places out there with better food and service. Will I recommend this place to a friend? Again, I’d recommend to try it out once, only for the food.
